Kick the New Year Off Right!

Whitney CarlsonComment

As you may have already read, He and She Eat Clean had some major changes for the new year. Jim and Tiffany have decided to step down from the website. Scott and I (Whitney) will be the full time contributors. This brings much excitement but is also a very nerve-racking time. Not much will change - we will still deliver the recipes, workouts, and the educational information you love but we will also be making it a bit more personal. We want you to know how we achieve this lifestyle as a couple through our successes and struggles. We welcome this new change and hope to grow the website and the clean eating/healthy lifestyle movement even more!

We also want the new He and She Eat Clean to be about YOU! You know where to find us (FacebookPinterestInstagramTwitterYouTube, and at thegang@heandsheeatclean.com). But we want to hear from you! If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns we are here to answer them to the best of our ability so don't be scared to reach out!

With the new year came an amazing opportunity for us to work with Whole Foods Market and Garmin to bring you six weeks worth of helpful hints, tips, ideas, recipes, and workouts so you can start the new year off on the right foot! Since it is the new year that means everything is about resolutions. We know some people love them and some people hate them. We believe that once you are ready to change your life you should change it right then - no matter what month it is or day of the week it is! However, there is something very special about a new year that truly is like starting new. It's a chance to take what you learned from the prior year and make the upcoming year even better.

When setting your goals, it is important to set goals that are reasonable and realistic. Below are our top 3 fitness goals for the new year and we would love to hear yours!

Our Top 2015 Fitness Goals:

1. Take at least 15 hikes that are 15 or more miles.

  • We haven't shared this much on He and She Eat Clean in the past but if you follow us on WhitneyCarlson.com you probably know that we are avid hikers. We even climbed Half Dome and Mt. Whitney (the highest mountain in the lower 48) in the same trip this past fall (after already hiking over 100 miles)! I think you could consider us obsessed with hiking so we decided to set a lofty goal for ourselves to hike at least 15 hikes that are 15 miles or more (in honor of 2015). We will keep you posted on our progress!

Below is a picture at the bottom of Half Dome (in Yosemite National Park)...it was one of the scariest and most amazing things we've ever done!

Below is a picture of us on top of Mt, Whitney (highest mountain in the lower 48). We both wanted to give up every step of this 23 mile hike but we didn't and we are so glad we made it to the top!

2. Move more throughout the day while working {reduce length of inactivity}.

  • We both normally sit at a computer for work and it's very easy to fall into the trap of not getting up for hours! The vívofit actually lets you know when you have been sitting for too long. It displays a red bar after 1 hour of inactivity and although the red bar looks pretty cool it really annoys us when it comes on...so it has worked to get us up and moving at least for a few minutes each hour!

3. Pay close attention to our sleep habits while trying to meet a minimum of 7.5 hours.

  • Sleep is something that a lot of people overlook when setting goals. Sleep is EXTREMELY important, especially when you are trying to reach your fitness goals. The vívofit monitors your sleep patterns so that you can view your patterns of movement and restful sleep. We are very excited about this so that we can dig into our sleep patterns more!

We also went to Whole Foods Market at the beginning of the week to get some groceries for a few new recipes that we tried New Years Eve (Recipes coming soon because they were amazing!). I always laugh at Scott because he could spend three hours in Whole Foods Market if I let him and we always end up there in every city we visit! Below is a sneak peek at the colorful assortment of vegetables we bought and prepared for the THREE new recipes we created!
