When I first started going to the gym I was scared to death. I wouldn't leave Scott's side. I was so afraid that everyone was watching me and that I would do something wrong. I am already really shy and I don't like to be around a lot of people so it was very nerve-racking.
Since many of you are making resolutions to workout in 2013, we wanted to provide you with some tips to make your experience more enjoyable!
One day I just decided that I was going to go in there with confidence, I didn't care who looked at me, and I didn't care what they thought of me! I told myself "fake it until you make it" and that is what I did! Put your ear phones in and get to work! However, do not be afraid to ask someone for help - it is better to ask for help than to hurt yourself and gym rats LOVE sharing their knowledge! ;-) Also, remember that if someone tries to make conversation with you or asks to work in with you on a machine you're currently using, don't take it personally. It is sometimes hard to know what equipment is being used and what isn't and some people enjoy meeting new friends in the gym and the social aspect of working out. If you are new to the gym, start slow. Try to shoot for 30 minutes per day and work your way up. Don't go into the gym and overwhelm yourself! The most important thing is to simply GET MOVING!
Most importantly, have FUN - think of all the fun things you will be able to do once you are in better shape! You will be able to enjoy nature, play with your kids, and have more energy!
