Think living a healthy lifestyle is too expensive? Think again!

Did you catch our post on How to Build your Home Gym for Less Than $100? We’ve heard from a lot of you, especially those doing our She Sweats At-Home Workouts, that you took the advice and now have a great little workout space!

As you probably know by now, working out will only get you so far. You also need to adopt healthy eating habits in order to really make a complete lifestyle change. No, we aren’t saying you will never be able to enjoy your favorite treats again but we are saying to start making healthy choices while eating. An easy way to do this is by making healthy meals at home. We have a ton of recipes on the site to choose from - many spouse and kid approved (try these breakfast and lunch/dinner recipes)!

In order to help you in this aspect, we've put together a list of items to help you build your healthy living kitchen on a budget! These items will help you #MakeYourMove in the kitchen!

Below are the four items that we use most often. We usually make one slow cooker meal each week and also grill out while making extras for lunch during the week (the George Foreman is great for when the weather isn’t too nice outside!). We prepare most of our food during food prep that way it’s ready to go during our busy weeks. The food scale will allow you to easily portion out your meals until you can eyeball your portions. Storage containers are definitely something you will want to have on hand in all different sizes. We love the glass storage containers because they can easily be heated up in the microwave!

After you’ve built your base of the Food Prep Tools listed above you can add the items below that will make your life just a little easier!

A meat thermometer will take the guess work out of cooking meats. It’s very easy to over-cook meat especially if you forgot to set a timer! Don’t compromise your healthy by eating under cooked meat! We went years without having actual kitchen shears and I wish I could get that time back! They make cutting meat so much faster! You’ll definitely be mixing and measuring many different items so having mixing bowls that also measure are a life saver! Once you start prepping your food you will love discovering new gadgets that make it easier!

Fit Finds :: 5 Sunday Food Prep Tools We Can't Live Without

Today's post is all about making our lives easier. Here are 5 Sunday food prep tools that we definitely wouldn't want to live without!

Fit Finds :: 5 Sunday Food Prep Tools We Can't Live Without

  • 6-Quart Slow Cooker - Those little round Crock Pots are cute, but not so functional for the amount we cook! This is, by far, the number 1 tool we use for cooking the flavorful chicken meals we eat so often.
  • Knife Set - A good set of knives are one of your best investments! We have used so many and keep going back to our Wusthofs!
  • Cutting Boards - Along with good knives come cutting boards that won't ruin your knives! Don't forget to have two (and label them) - one for veggies and one for meats.
  • Vitamix 1782 - Great for chopping veggies, juicing and making hummus and pesto.
  • Food Scale - Until you get to where you can eyeball certain foods (which we are still working on!), you will want to weigh out your portions!  Believe it or not, we find most people aren't eating ENOUGH!  A food scale is a must-have!

What's your favorite Sunday food prep tool?

FIT Finds :: 5 Inexpensive MUST HAVES for Your Next Workout

You turn on the TV late at night or early in the morning and you are bombarded with infomercials telling you about the latest and greatest fitness craze, certain to whip you into top shape in no time flat. What about the home shopping networks that have one of their good looking, semi-fit hosts clad in workout gear standing next to a muscle-clad gentleman hocking products that will again, "do the trick." If you follow our blog, you know there is no "Trick" - it's all hard work, determination and it's all about what you eat!

Here are 5 things that I can't live without when I go to the gym...

1.

Small Notebook

- Although I use my phone quite a bit to track my progress with one of my favorite apps (more info on the app later), I still write everything down! I find that it's my best tool to challenge myself and see what I did on my last workout in between sets. Make sure the notebook is small - if you get a regular size that you would have carried to a college class to take notes, it will get in the way!  Here is my absolute favorite - it looks nice and makes me want to use it!

Moleskine Classic Ruled Pocket Notebook - Red

- $11.14 (also available in manly colors, like black!)

2.

Protein Shaker with Compartments

- I am really particular in how my protein powder is mixed. Call me crazy, but loading up powder in an empty container and then later adding water and shaking it doesn't cut it for me. I need to take my shaker, add some water, add powder, add more water and then shake. Sounds crazy? But it's not! I never get clumps this way! The

SmartShake

protein shakers are the absolute best for me because it has screw on compartments that you can store powder in without having to put it in the main shaker portion.

SmartShake Gun Smoke Edition

- $8.79 (they have some awesome colors and special editions too!)

3.

Earbuds with a Microphone

- These are a no brainer!! With cell phone technology these days, the need for a special music gadget is gone - yippee! One less thing I need to carry! These are really subjective, but for the money and because I stash multiple in my car, my gym bag and my purse, I like the

Skull Candy

brand. I can listen to my music and if I get a call while I am at the gym, I hit the button on the earphones and take my call hands free!

Skull Candy Ink'd Earbuds with Mic

- $11.08 (multiple color variations at this price!)

4.

BPA Free Refillable Water Bottle

- Ever take a sip and half of it ends up down your shirt? Hate those straws that you just can't clean? This is my go-to water bottle for the gym that eliminates those problems!

Contigo AutoSeal BPA Free Water Bottle, 24 ounces

- $9.99

5.

Hand-sized Towel

- I love barriers. That's just what carrying around a small towel is! I wait and wait for a bench only to discover that the sweaty person in front of me left a present. NO THANK YOU!!! I know it's not fool proof, but a towel offers a little bit of protect and best of all, it's washable and so are you! Why not get some motivation while you are at it too - check out these cute towels!!

InPerspire's "I Am Worth It"

- $11.95

InPerspire's "To Be is to Lift, To Lift is to Be"

What is your go-to item in your gym bag? Will you be adding any of these?
