Thanksgiving Day to New Year's Day Workout Challenge

Have you heard about our FREE 13 Day Clean Eating Challenge? It includes a sample meal plan, workout plan, plus much more. Learn more and join today!

I've never released a challenge specifically for this time frame but I'm super excited to do so! I know that this is a very busy time of year so this challenge will not take very much time. While I would like for you to be doing this in addition to your normal workouts (we have quite a few...wink wink) if this is the only thing you have time for it is better than nothing! The goal here is to just get into the habit (or keep the habit) of working out.

There are two workout plans that I would suggest for this time of year if you are looking for something more structured. One is our Busy Body 4-Week Workout Plan. You will only spend 3 days a week in the gym (or your home workout space) for 40 minutes or less! Learn more here.

Another one is our She Sweats Extreme 4-Week Shred. This one is a little bit more advanced so it is not recommended for beginners. This plan is focused on strength training and HIIT in a circuit-based workout. The four weeks are structured to optimally shed fat and help retain the muscle you have worked so hard to build. Learn more here.

For 40 days, from Thanksgiving Day to New Year's Day, you have two challenges to do each day. They can even be split up if you prefer. The cardio challenge is just ONE mile of any type of cardio you choose to do. In a perfect world, you would be doing these outside to get the benefit of being in the fresh air and you would be switching things up and doing different types of cardio but I understand that can be hard sometimes. The core challenge is also the same each day, you hold a regular plank, with good form for as long as possible. As I mentioned, the goal here is just to get moving or keep moving through the holidays but I've also included a "notes" section on each so you can record your mile time and plank time if you would like to try and improve those over the course of the challenge. You could also use this column to check off each day that you complete the challenge!

Healthy Kid-Friendly Snacks from Costco - Refrigerated

Healthy Kid Friendly Snacks from Costco - Refrigerated

We know that many of you have kids so we wanted to share our favorite healthy(er) kid-friendly snacks we found at Costco! No, we don't have kids but we do have a niece and three nephews. ;-)

One evening while walking up and down the aisles at Costco (it is our favorite store, if you didn't know that already!) we started talking about how much cheaper items are and that's basically where we grocery shop each week even though it's just the two of us. Then I started thinking about all of the people with kids...how do they do it WITHOUT having a membership to a warehouse club?!

I put together this list of healthy(er) kid-friendly snacks that I think are a great deal compared to the prices I've seen at the regular grocery stores or specialty stores. This is the list of refrigerated items (and one frozen item) and here is the list for our favorite healthy kid-friendly shelf stable items from Costco!

As with our other Costco shopping lists, prices and selection may vary at your local Costco!

You are a Costco lover too?! Check out our additional Costco related content:

Thanksgiving Turkey Vegetable Tray

Thanksgiving Turkey Vegetable Tray

We were having our last meeting for Girls on the Run and I wanted to bring some healthy snacks for the girls. I decided that I would make a vegetable tray and try to turn it into the shape of a turkey. For someone who isn't very good at this kind of stuff, I think it turned out pretty well! ;-) I have another one I need to make soon so I'll make it again (try to improve!) and post it here.

I went to Costco and bought a vegetable tray ($9.99) a bag of peppers (6 mixed peppers for $5.99) and a bag of cucumbers (3 for $3.99). I ended up only using one pepper and one cucumber and only half of the carrots from the tray. You could easily make this for under $10, depending on how many people you are trying to feed.

I modeled mine after this one and a few other pictures I saw floating around the internet.

You can really use any vegetables you want, just make sure you use ones with a lot of colors! As I mentioned, I started with a vegetable tray that contained carrots, broccoli, snap peas, cauliflower, and dressing. I also added cucumbers and bell peppers.

I started at the top and placed by broccoli in a semi-circle. Then I added the carrots and sliced peppers. I transferred the dressing from the plastic container into a glass one. I placed it under the peppers and then started filling in the gap with cucumbers. Around the bottom, I added snap peas.

All you have left to do is to put together the turkey face! I used a red bell pepper and cut off all of it except for the end. I also cut a hole in the middle so that the beak would fit in and stay put. For the legs, I used carrots and just carefully cut out little "toes" using kitchen scissors. For the eyes, I used raisins and just mashed a few together with my hands to make them stick (how's that for professional!?). You could also use dates. It might be best to wait and assemble the turkey face when you get your tray to where it will actually be consumed. That way you don't risk the whole thing falling into the dressing!

That's it! This is an easy and inexpensive way to dress up a vegetable tray! Enjoy creating your own. Let me know if you think of something different or have a picture to share!
