This challenge is a little different than our previous monthly challenges but that's what we were going for! I know, I know. You might not like running but it's only one mile and this challenge was created as a way to get you moving throughout the day when you might otherwise be sitting. If you are a beginner this is a great way to get started!

We always preach rest days which is why we have included a "walk one mile" for your rest day. This needs to just be a leisurely walk, not run. Take this time to think about your goals and just enjoy nature. It really is amazing what a walk outside can do for your mood!

This challenge was designed to be something that you do in addition to your normal workout (which is hopefully one of our workout plans!). We have 4, 6, and 12 week workout plans for all fitness levels! If you do enjoy running we have plans for you too! Check out our 12-Week Run Builder, Half Marathon Training Plan, and Full Marathon Training Plan! Feel free to re-arrange the days so that your rest day on this challenge lines up with your workout plan rest day.

We worked with Moms RUN This Town on this challenge so you know it's going to be good! Get ready to record your time if you want to see how you improve or just forget about time and technology altogether for this challenge - it's your choice! If you don't have a way to time your runs you can always use mailboxes if you are running in a neighborhood or other landmarks. For example: run the first six mailboxes and walk the next three, etc. When you see sprint instead of run that just means that you are going to go as fast as you can for the listed amount of time and your walk will be your recovery.

The challenge is only one mile per day so if it lists run two minutes/walk two minutes, you run two minute and walk two minutes until you hit your one mile (no matter how many times you need to repeat). I hope this clears up any confusion!

We receive a lot of questions about alcohol consumption. While we do try to limit our alcohol consumption we enjoy a drink or two on the weekends, during special occasions, or when we travel. If you follow us on social media (namely Snapchat - we're under hesheeatclean - since we share more of our day-to-day life there) you probably already know that our drinks of choice include red wine and vodka.

We tend to stick with making our own drinks instead of ordering them when we are out (drinks at restaurants are expensive!). One of the downfalls of alcohol is that liquid calories can add up really quickly without even realizing it. It's normally the mixers that contain a ton of calories, sugar, and other unnecessary ingredients. We used to order (or make) margaritas. Once I started really focusing on my health I was floored when I looked up the sugar content of my favorite margarita - it had over 50 grams of sugar. I would much rather eat my sugar than drink it!

When Stoli reached out to us about their completely new, naturally gluten-free vodka recipe we were down for trying it out! The unique blend of 88 percent corn and 12 percent buckwheat achieves the ideal taste. We decided to test it out last weekend after a lot of yard work! I made what I call Lemonade with a "Kick" and Scott had a Bloody Mary.

Lemonade with a Kick

This is similar to our Refreshing Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Drink (without the ACV!)

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 freshly squeezed lemons (or lemon juice, just look for a natural juice without added ingredients)
  • 1-2 shots of Stoli Gluten Free Vodka
  • Stevia or your choice of sweetener
  • Water
  • Ice cubes

Directions:

  1. Squeeze lemons into a mason jar (or similar container)
  2. Fill with desired amount of water and add stevia, to taste
  3. Add Vodka and mix
  4. Add ice cubs, if desired

As I mentioned, Scott had a Bloody Mary so I wanted to include that one too! You can make your own Bloody Mary mix or look for one without preservatives (sodium benzoate/benzoic acid), MSG, tons of sodium, high fructose corn syrup, and other junk ingredients that aren't necessary (soy products, corn starch, sugars, etc.).

As with everything else in the health and fitness world, small changes really add up. Consider swapping out your sugar loaded fruity drink for this lemonade or come up with your own recipe! As always, have fun but be responsible. You are always responsible for your own actions.

Many people ask us about drinking. While we do try to limit our alcohol consumption, when we do drink we normally drink red wine or vodka mixed with Zevia (usually lemon lime). We do our best to avoid drinks loaded with sugar.
