Jillian Michaels' Detox Water

Plain and simple...just the way we like it!

Jillian Michaels' detox water consists of distilled water, cranberry juice, organic dandelion root tea and lemon juice. Why these particular ingredients mixed together? It's a natural diuretic drink!

But WAIT! Isn't distilled water bad for you? The short answer is no...distilled water isn't bad for you. Many people have this misconception because distilled water is slightly acidic and doesn't contain any organic minerals because everything except for the pure H2O is removed during the distillation process. You want to use distilled water for a cleanse or detox because you want the pure water to help remove toxins from your system, not add more toxins back into your system!

Moreover, your kidneys regulate the minerals you consume through the foods you eat, so unless you have existing kidney issues (and contrary to the opinions in the comments section), this drink will not harm you! With that said, we use spring water or alkalized water for daily water consumption while not detoxing. We don't recommend distilled water for daily consumption because our diets are already very acidic by nature, so alkaline water is the best way to go to keep your pH balance in check.

This is a detox water that you drink along with your clean, healthy meals...it is not designed to be a full-fledged cleanse, rather it should be used to reduce bloating and water weight. It's perfect to drink when you're seven days away from a big event.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Brew the tea as listed on the box and let it cool to room temperature
  2. Mix all ingredients together and add the tea (once cooled)
  3. Drink the entire mixture each day for up to 7 days (you will make a new batch each day)

Notes:

  • Many of you reached out about having a hard time finding the ingredients for this detox water. You can check your local grocery store but we order most of ours on Amazon. Below are a few links to the products:
  • Again, this is water that you drink with your normal, healthy meals. You don't starve yourself while only drinking this water. ;-)
  • I actually liked the taste of this water but it is bitter!
  • You can consume this drink every 12 to 16 weeks.

Clean Eat Recipe: Orange Lemonade Juice

Ingredients:

  • 1 Navel Orange
  • 2 Lemons
  • 2 Large Handfuls of Organic Spinach (fill up the rest of the Vitamix with organic spinach)
  • 1 Scoop of Kal Pure Stevia Extract
  • 1.5 Cups of Water

Directions (using a Vitamix):

1. Place all ingredients in the Vitamix

2. Turn the Vitamix on variable power, speed 1 & gradually increase speed until all ingredients are blended

3. Turn Vitamix on high power & let juice for 30-60 seconds until mixture is in juice consistency

Clean Eat Recipe: Scott's Green Machine

Ever since I watched the documentaries Fat Sick and Nearly Dead, and Hungry for Change, I've been juicing every day as a quick and easy (and somewhat tasty) way to get my veggies in. By the way, both documentaries are very good so check them out! They will really open your eyes on how unhealthy our typical American diet really is and how the food industry disguises the true nutritional information of its products.

A couple things I didn't like about most juice recipes I saw were the lack of protein and the overuse of fruits to cancel out the bitter taste of the vegetables. Moreover, most of the recipes I saw did not add in any spices to enhance the flavor of the juice and incorporate their health-boosting effects. So, I decided to make my own recipe by adding in some pure organic hemp protein powder along with ginger, turmeric, and superfood powder all while cutting out the fructose. Needless to say, this juice offers a powerhouse of green, ph-balancing ingredients with tons of fiber and plenty of protein to help you feel full, build muscle, and burn fat.

By the way, we purchased the Vitamix on Amazon as our Christmas gift to each other back when it was on sale for around $360. I was very skeptical at first about spending that much on a blender, but I use it multiple times every day and it's very versatile! All I have to do is throw everything in the blender and turn it on...I don't have to cut things into smaller pieces like I did with our Ninja. It's self-cleaning and comes with a 7-year warranty, so all things considered, it's definitely worth it...I've probably already gotten my money's worth out of it (and that's tough for me to say since I'd consider myself pretty frugal)!

So, this recipe is based on using the Vitamix... if you have a juicer then you may have to modify the method just a bit.

Ingredients:

Directions (using a Vitamix): 

  1. Throw all ingredients in Vitamix, add about 1 cup water and a few ice cubes.
  2. Turn Vitamix on variable power, speed 1 and gradually increase until all ingredients are blended.
  3. Then, turn Vitamix on high power and let juice for 30-60 seconds until mixture is in juice consistency.

Macros (per serving): 

  • Calories - 103
  • Fat - 4 g
  • Carbs - 16 g (4 g net carbs due to high fiber content)
  • Fiber - 12 g
  • Protein - 10 g

Great source of fiber, protein, potassium, zinc, magnesium, essential fatty acids (Omega 3-6-9), Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, bioflavanoids, probiotics, and antioxidants.
